Massachusetts' Morton Hospital Files Notice of Sale to Steward Health Care Systems

Morton Hospital and Medical Center in Taunton, Mass., has filed formal notice with the state attorney general's office of its plan to be acquired by Boston-based Steward Health Care System, according to a Boston Globe report.

The acquisition would convert the non-profit hospital to for-profit status. The board of the struggling hospital voted to join the system in late March. The deal must be reviewed by Attorney General Martha Coakley's office and approved by the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts.
