Local Residents Urge Support for Loris Healthcare, McLeod Health Merger in S.C.

A group of residents and politicians in Horry County, S.C., are urging voters to support a merger between Loris (S.C.) Healthcare System and McLeod Health, based in Florence, S.C., to improve quality of care, according to a Sun News report.

Supporters have formed the Citizens for Better Healthcare Services committee and want the merger to go on Nov. 1 ballots for public approval, which is required before the systems merge since Loris is a state entity. The system includes Loris Community Hospital, Seacoast Medical Center and Loris Extended Care.

Loris Healthcare began considering a merger or partnership earlier this year and in July entered into a five-year management agreement with McLeod Health. A merger would strengthen this agreement to all specialties and bring more physicians and technology to Loris facilities.
