Georgia's Phoebe Putney, Palmyra Medical Center Receive FTC Subpoenas for Information Surrounding Sale

The Federal Trade Commission has filed subpoenas requesting information on non-profit Albany, Ga.-based Phoebe Putney Health System's planned acquisition of HCA-owned Palmyra Medical Center, also in Albany, according to an Albany Herald report.

The subpoenas were issued as part of an ongoing preliminary antitrust investigation. Both hospitals requested to squash the subpoenas. The FTC denied the request but did give the hospitals until March 15 to comply.

The hospitals plan to move forward with the sale despite the investigation and said they are cooperating with request.

Phoebe Putney offered to buy 248-bed Palmyra for $195 million in December.
