California's Prime Healthcare Services to Buy New Jersey's Christ Hospital

After losing $4 million last year, officials at Christ Hospital in Jersey City, N.J., said they are in negotiations to have Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare Services buy their hospital, according to a Jersey Journal report.

The report said roughly $30 million in capital investments would be made toward Christ Hospital. The hospital would have been $11 million in the red if it hadn't received a $7 million state grant.

If the sale is approved by each entity's board and by the state, Christ Hospital would become the fourth nonprofit hospital in its county to become a for-profit institution since 2008, the report said. The others are Bayonne (N.J.) Medical Center, Meadowlands Hospital in Secaucus, N.J., and Hoboken (N.J.) University Medical Center.
