Morgantown, W.Va.-based WVU Cancer Institute will hire 38 new cancer specialists by 2020 to meet growing demand.
Visits to the WVU Cancer Institute have increased by 27 percent in the last year. In addition to adding oncologists to its staff, the institute is also expanding with 32,000 square feet of new patient care space, including 44 new exam rooms.
"Cancer outcomes in Monongalia County are excellent, but they are not as good elsewhere in the state," Richard Goldberg, MD, director of the WVU Cancer Institute, said. "We want to make the cancer experts available here in Morgantown available to a bigger population. We are anxious to provide the kind of expertise some people feel compelled to leave the state to find."
The construction will cost $13.2 million and is expected to be completed in late 2018, while interviews for new oncologists have only just begun.
