Why NewYork-Presbyterian cannot select cardiothoracic residents this Match Day

NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center in New York City is unable to pick residents for its cardiothoracic surgery program this Match Day due to an "inadvertent administrative error," according to an emailed statement.

NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center missed the deadline for submitting a rank order list for the cardiothoracic residents to the National Resident Matching Program.

"The hospital is committed to all of our graduate medical education programs and we have implemented a process so that this does not happen again," the statement notes.

NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center may still have the chance to gain cardiothoracic residents via participation in the "Match Week Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program," National Resident Matching Program President and CEO told MedPage Today.
