Ayne Amjad, MD, an internal medicine physician with practices in Beckley, W.Va., and Princeton, W.Va., declared her intent to run for the U.S. House of Representatives 3rd Congressional District seat in 2018, according to The Register-Herald.

Dr. Amjad previously ran as a write-in candidate for mayor of Beckley, but was not elected.

She resolved to run for another office. She said she considered running for governor, but believed the Congressional seat would prove more fruitful, according to the report.

Dr. Amjad plans on filling out the necessary paperwork to declare her run within the next month, she said. She also plans to change her party affiliation to run as a Republican candidate, according to the report.

Despite lacking political experience, Dr. Amjad told The Register-Herald her skills as a physician may prove beneficial.

"[As a physician] you have to listen to people. If I go to a town hall meeting, I'm not there to push my agenda. I'm there to listen. You have to listen to what they want to do, come up with a plan together, and try to execute it," she said.
