Wayne State med school aims to revive dead Henry Ford deal

Alyssa Rege -

Detroit-based Wayne State University School of Medicine officials said they hope to resume negotiations with Henry Ford Health System over a shared medical education partnership — negotiations that reportedly collapsed this past weekend, The Detroit News reports.

Three things to know:

1. Several WSU board members told The Detroit News last week that the university's negotiations with Henry Ford had collapsed. However, university officials told the publication the following day that they hope to revive negotiations after discussing the issue with the board.

"Based on this clarification, we believe we have a path forward, and intend to resume negotiations immediately. We remain optimistic of continuing progress toward a significant expansion of our partnership with Henry Ford," WSU said in a statement.

2. WSU signed a partnership agreement with Henry Ford in September 2018 to make the Detroit-based health system its primary academic partner. Currently, WSU students train at both Henry Ford and Detroit Medical Center.

3. Officials said the partnership would would allow more than 100 WSU medical students the opportunity to conduct clinical rotations at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, as well as at several other system locations.
