UPMC consolidates hospice, home care in Pittsburgh

Emily Rappleye -

Pittsburgh-based UPMC and Oakmont, Pa.-based Presbyterian SeniorCare announced a new partnership with Pittsburgh-based Family Hospice and Palliative Care.

Family Hospice and Palliative Care is the largest nonprofit hospice and palliative care organization in Pennsylvania and will become part of UPMC's Community Provider Services division.

Family Hospice will retain its brand, locations, CEO and employees under the new agreement. However, the hospice operations will be managed by UPMC Home Nursing Agency and staff will become employees of UPMC.

Presbyterian SeniorCare is a corporate sponsor and will share in governance and support the Family Hospice mission, according to a statement. Both Presbyterian SeniorCare and UPMC have previously been corporate partners with Family Hospice.

Once a definitive agreement is reached, the transaction is expected to close mid-year.
