University of Virginia Medical Center Buys Private Cancer Practice

Officials from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville have approved the UV Medical Center's purchase of a private oncology practice, according to a Daily Progress report.

UVMC will acquire Hematology Oncology Patient Enterprises, also based in Charlottesville, Va. The acquisition is expected to bring in $35 million or more in additional revenue.

The addition of the oncology practice is also expected to help the UVMC become a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center — the first in the state, according to the report.

The practice will retain the same physicians and four locations.
