University of Iowa Health, Mercy Medical Partner on ACO

Staff -
The University of Iowa Health Care in Iowa City and Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, have announced plan to partner to develop an accountable care organization.

Mercy and UI Health Care are also exploring opportunities to work together to treat patients affected by end stage renal failure. Additionally, Mercy will convert to UIHC's medical record system to enhance care coordination and integration.

"This relationship will enable both organizations to continue to deliver high quality healthcare in patient-centered environments while we work together to enhance community health and services in the Corridor," said Tim Charles, CEO of Mercy Medical Center in a statement. "At the same time, both organizations will remain independent and retain the flexibility to respond and adapt to changes in healthcare. This approach offers the best of both worlds."
