The University at Buffalo (N.Y.)'s Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences is one step closer to having a new facility, according to The Buffalo News.
Medical school officials, donors and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) gathered March 22 as construction workers "topped off" the facility, placing the final beam on the building's roof. The beam was signed by numerous individuals, including students, Gov. Cuomo, medical school alumni, construction workers and University at Buffalo President Satish Tripathi, PhD.
"Putting the final beam into place for the new medical school building signals the successful completion of the steel construction phase of what is an extraordinary project for the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, the university and the city of Buffalo," said Dr. Tripathi, according to the report.
The eight-story facility cost a total of $375 million.
The building is expected to be completed by 2017. Through the project, the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences will expand its class size by 36 and its faculty by 100.
