John Longhurst, MD, PhD, professor of medicine at UC Irvine, and his wife Cherril Longhurst died Feb. 6 when their plane crashed shortly after takeoff, according to Fox 5.
The couple was flying a single-engine, four-seat Cessna 182 Skylane with their two dogs when the engine lost power and crashed shortly before 7 a.m. No one on the ground was injured.
According to the report, the two dogs survived the impact and were taken to a veterinary hospital for treatment.
Personnel from the Federal Aviation Administration went to the scene to document evidence. The investigation into the crash will be handled by the National Transportation Safety Board.
