UC Davis nursing school dean steps down

Heather Young, PhD, RN, founding dean, professor and associate vice chancellor of nursing for the UC Davis Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing in Sacramento, Calif., revealed plans March 15 to step down from her leadership position.

Here are three things to know about Dr. Young.

1. Dr. Young will end her leadership role in July and return after a sabbatical to conduct research more aligned with her interests in family caregiving and healthy aging for older adults. She will also maintain the roles of dean emeritus and professor at the school.

2. Officials will name an interim dean to the position following Dr. Young's departure.

3. Dr. Young joined UC Davis in 2008. During her tenure, she spearheaded the creation of the school itself, as well as five graduate degree programs, and garnered more than $12 million in funding to to launch a research program.
