Tri-City Medical Center board member sues board for excluding her from meetings

RoseMarie Reno, RN, chairwoman of the San Diego-based Tri-City Healthcare District board, is suing the board for allegedly excluding her from closed-door meetings she says she had a right to attend, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Ms. Reno has served on the board since 1984 and alleges she was excluded from sessions that dealt with disputes between former Tri-City Medical Center CEO Larry Anderson and Medical Acquisition Company over building deals. The board voted to determine how they would proceed with litigation between Tri-City and Medical Acquisition Company, but Ms. Reno claims she was not invited to partake in the decision making processes.

Bart Blechschmidt, Ms. Reno's attorney, said Ms. Reno only wanted to advocate for the interests of those who elected her to the board.

"She believes that she has an obligation to the people who elected her to be able to be their voice and protect their interests," Mr. Blechschmidt said Wednesday. "When she's excluded from meetings in which those decisions are being made, she feels that she's not able to do what they elected her to do."

Ms. Reno hopes to receive a court-approved declaration of her rights as a board member as well as any damages the court sees fit.
