Knoxville, Tenn-based physician practice TeamHealth deployed clinicians to El Paso, Texas, as COVID-19 cases increased in the city, according to a company news release.

Five details:

1. TeamHealth said it deployed the clinicians in less than 48 hours and was able to offer 1,000 additional hours of coverage in November, as El Paso clinicians report seeing more than 40 percent more patients in the last few weeks.

2. The company aims to provide more than 1,000 additional hours of coverage in the city for December.

3. Among the patients seen by the TeamHealth clinicians, 70 percent tested positive for COVID-19 and needed immediate care.

4. About two dozen TeamHealth clinicians who traveled to El Paso received emergency privileges.

5. TeamHealth previously sent clinicians to New York and South Florida during COVID-19 surges earlier this year and has experience providing on-the-ground clinical support after disasters, including Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.
