Emily Rappleye -

Male and female physicians report that women in medicine face more harassment, fewer opportunities and lower pay than men, according to CompHealth, a healthcare staffing firm.

CompHealth conducted a survey of 781 physicians, highlighting several gender gaps:

  • 37 percent of female physicians have not experienced or seen harassment of any kind at their organizations, compared to 52 percent of male physicians
  • 12 percent of women have never experienced sexual harassment, compared to 38 percent of men
  • 34 percent of women believe both genders are equally respected at their organizations, compared to 69 percent of men
  • 49 percent of women believe opportunities are equal, compared to 79 percent of men
  • 46 percent of women reported making less than $200,000, compared to 28 percent of men
