The Senate Subcommittee on Primary Health and Aging, led by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), will hold a hearing on the primary care crisis Tuesday.
The hearing was scheduled in light of the primary care physician shortage currently facing the nation, which is expected to worsen in 2014 when roughly 30 million Americans receive health insurance under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
The subcommittee will question the following witnesses:
• Fitzhugh Mullan, MD. Professor of medicine and health policy at George Washington University (Washington, D.C.)
• Tess Stack Kuenning, RN. Executive director of Bi-State Primary Care Association (Montpelier, Vt.)
• Toni Decklever, RN. Government affairs for Wyoming Nurses Association (Cheyenne)
• Andrew Wilper, MD. Acting Chief of Medicine at VA Medical Center (Boise, Idaho)
• Uwe Reinhardt, PhD. Professor of political economy and public affairs at Princeton (N.J.) University
• Claudia Fegan, MD. CMO of John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County (Chicago)
