Emergency and hospital medicine management companies Schumacher Clinical Partners, based in Lafayette, La., and ECI Healthcare Partners, based in Traverse City, Mich., are merging.

Here are four things to know about the merger.

1. By merging, the two companies are creating one of the largest health service networks in the nation.

2. In total, the combined SCP and ECI organization will result in an active presence across the U.S. with a combined 450 programs, caring for over 8 million patients a year.

3. Combining their networks will "allow for an expansion of resources, a further growth of service offerings and the utilization of industry leading best practices," both parties said.

4. The merger will take effect by the end of the second quarter of 2016, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
