Rady Children's Hospital Joins Statewide ACO Pilot Program in California

Staff -
Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego is one of five healthcare organizations that will be awarded a contract to launch an ACO-like pilot project, according to the state's Department of Health Care Services news release.

DHCS' contracts to regional healthcare organizations for pilot projects are aimed at improving care for children with special healthcare needs through the California Children's Services program, which provides healthcare services for children up to 21 years of age who have certain conditions, such as congenital heart disease, cancers and cerebral palsy.

The pilot projects, which are expected to begin in January, will focus on improving care provided to children in the CCS program through better and more efficient care coordination, with the goals of improved health outcomes, increased consumer satisfaction and greater cost effectiveness.

Rady Children's Hospital and its affiliated physicians, in collaboration with the county CCS program, will establish an accountable care organization jointly designed, implemented and managed by its founding partners. The model aims to achieve improved healthcare outcomes, improved population health, greater efficiency and reduced costs.

DHCS issued four other "intent to award" notices to Children's Hospital of Orange County, L.A. Care Health Plan, Health Plan of San Mateo County and Alameda County Health Care.
