Premier Health, Wright State U pursue clinical partnership

Alyssa Rege -

Dayton, Ohio-based Premier Health's ongoing partnership negotiations with Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, also in Dayton, have reportedly heated up in recent weeks, according to the Dayton Daily News.

Here are three things to know:

1. A Wright State official told the Dayton Daily News the organizations have engaged in partnership discussions for the past two years. The institutions previously used an informal affiliation agreement to allow Wright State medical students the opportunity to work at Premier Health facilities in the area, the report states.

2. However, a formal partnership would allow Wright State students applying for clinical rotations and residencies at Premier's facilities to receive preference. The institutions would not be exclusive partners, but "preferred partners," the university official said.

3. A Premier Health spokesperson said in a statement to the Dayton Daily News: "Premier Health takes very seriously its long-standing and ongoing commitment to strengthen medical care for the greater Dayton region, and we often accomplish that goal through partnerships with other community institutions. Premier Health has long collaborated with Wright State University and values that relationship."
