NYU Long Island School of Medicine founding dean to retire

Steven Shelov, MD, will be retiring as dean of NYU Long Island School of Medicine on Jan. 2, 2023, it said Oct. 3.

Dr. Shelov became founding dean of the school in 2017, where he also serves as professor in the pediatrics department. Gladys Ayala, MD, vice dean and professor in the medicine department, will take on the role of dean following Dr. Shelov's departure.

"We thank Dr. Shelov for his service to NYU Long Island School of Medicine, to medical education, and to the discipline of pediatrics," said Robert Grossman, MD, dean of NYU Grossman School of Medicine and CEO of NYU Langone Health. "He helped build the school from the ground up into the world-class beacon for primary care physician education it is today."
