New York City-based Nomad Health, a healthcare technology provider, has launched services in Texas and California to connect physicians with temporary clinical freelance work.
Officials said the goal of the platform is to minimize the growing physician shortage in the U.S. by allowing physicians searching for temporary freelance work to converse directly with institutions looking to hire locum tenens employees.
Researchers at the Association of American Medical Colleges project the U.S. will suffer a shortage of up to 104,900 physicians by 2030. Six of nine regions in California are facing a shortage of primary care physicians. In Texas, 35 counties have no practicing physicians at all, while roughly 80 countries have five or fewer physicians, according to the news release.
"We built Nomad to make healthcare hiring a cinch so that doctors can spend more time at the bedside and less time trying to get in the door to see patients," said Alexi Nazem, MD, co-founder and CEO of Nomad Health.
