Man escapes from Rutland Regional Medical Center wearing only boxers

Leo Vartorella -

A man who was being evaluated in the mental health unit at Rutland (Vt.) Regional Medical Center escaped Wednesday, according to WCAX.

The patient was dressed only in boxer shorts when he pushed past hospital workers and left the hospital. His hospital evaluation classified him as a threat to himself and others, but authorities said they are most worried about him wandering around in the cold without proper clothes, since he was last seen going into a nearby wooded area.

"We've deployed four or five K-9s. Our own K-9s and K-9s from other towns," said David Lachance of the Rutland City Police Department, according to WCAX. "We've been assisted by the Vermont State Police search and rescue team and the Vermont National Guard helicopter with the thermal imagery."
