Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine names Dr. Mark Schuster founding dean, CEO

The Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine in Pasadena, Calif., which is yet to open, tapped Mark A. Schuster, MD, PhD, as its founding dean and CEO.

Dr. Schuster is currently the William Berenberg Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School in Boston as well as chief of general pediatrics and vice chair for health policy in the medicine department at Boston Children's Hospital. He will assume his new roles at Kaiser Permanente in October.

Dr. Schuster leads the Center of Excellence for Pediatric Quality Measurement at Boston Children's, which focuses on developing and implementing measures to improve pediatric care. He was previously a professor of pediatrics and health services at UC Los Angeles' medical and public health schools. He is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and a past president of the Academic Pediatric Association.

In his new roles, Dr. Schuster will oversee daily operations and strategic direction of the new medical school, which is slated to break ground this year.
