Illinois Teaching Hospitals Troubled by Delays in Temporary Licenses for Medical Students

Staff -
Teaching hospitals in Illinois could face a reduction of medical students training in their facilities beginning in July if the state does not resolve delays in processing temporary licenses, according to a St. Louis Post-Dispatch report.

The granting of temporary licenses, which allow medical students to train in hospitals throughout the state, has been severely delayed. The Department of Financial and Professional Regulation cut half of the employees in its medical unit in January due to budget cuts. As a result, processing time has gone from 16 days to 6 months and is expected to rise, according to the report.
