Idaho's first medical school set to open next August

The Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine, Idaho's first medical school, will open August 2018, according to KIFI.

The 94,000-square-foot medical school, an affiliate of Pocatello-based Idaho State University, will be located in Meridian, Idaho.

The $35 million facility is expected to help the physician shortages in Idaho, which ranks last in the nation among primary care physicians per capita and 49th in overall physicians per capita, according to the report.

"ICOM is going to be a game changer. We're going to positively affect healthcare for generations to come not only for Idaho but for the whole region," said Robert Hasty, DO, the founding dean and chief academic officer of the Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine, according to KIFI.
