Georgia physician found bound, gagged in apartment

Police reportedly discovered an Augusta (Ga.) University Medical Center physician tied up, gagged and injured in her apartment March 15, according to CBS News 12.

Police were reportedly called to an apartment complex across the street from the Augusta University campus the morning of March 15.

When officials arrived, the front door to the victim's apartment was locked. Police kicked the door in and discovered the victim bound, gagged and injured. Authorities immediately called an ambulance and crime scene investigators, according to the report.

Police had not released the name of the victim or any information regarding the potential suspects as of March 15. However, officials did confirm the victim had been sexually assaulted.

The victim is alive and remains at an undisclosed hospital as of March 15, according to the report.

Brooks Keel, PhD, president of Augusta University, said in a statement, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and her family. At this time, we are focused on doing whatever we can to support her and other members of our community who have been affected by this act of violence."
