Nick Stukel, a medical student at Washington, D.C.-based Georgetown University School of Medicine, completed a lofty goal last month: competing in at least one marathon on all seven continents, according to the Omaha World-Herald.
Mr. Stukel began his endeavor in 2014 with a race in Phuket, Thailand. Since then, he's completed marathons in Tanzania, Germany, Argentina, Antarctica and Australia, and finished his final race in Washington, D.C. last month.
According to records kept by the Seven Continents Club, an organization that tracks the individuals who complete marathons on all seven continents, Mr. Stukel is the first medical student to ever accomplish the feat, as well as one of the youngest competitors to do so.
For Mr. Stukel, however, the activity combines his love for running, medicine and music. He donated the bulk of the more than $10,000 he's raised to Musicians On Call, a nonprofit organization that brings music to patients' bedsides.
