Pascagoula, Miss.-based Singing River Health System on Monday shut down the office of Terry Millette, MD, and terminated his contract with little warning, according to the Sun Herald.
"Recently, some questions were raised about how Dr. Millette diagnoses and treats patients with multiple sclerosis," read a statement the health system sent to patients and the media. "As a result, we immediately began a review of Dr. Millette's medical activity. During the course of this ongoing review, the decision was made that Dr. Millette would no longer base his practice at Singing River Hospital."
SRHS said it immediately began transferring his patients to other neurologists in the health system. "We are working closely with regional and national experts in neurology and our clinic staff, who are in the process of contacting Dr. Millette's patients directly to assist them with their care," the statement continued, according to the report.
Dr. Millette's medical career in Jackson County spans 30 years. He had an office in the Healthplex next to Singing River hospital in Pascagoula, called Neurology Associates.
"It wasn't anything he did wrong," said Randy Bosarge, District 5 supervisor for JacksonCounty. "He had an outstanding career in Jackson County. It was just a business decision basically, that had to be made ... a business decision that had to do with patient care. And it was a mutual parting of the ways."
In its press release, SRHS said the hospital acted consistently "with best medical practices, we have internal process in place to review the quality of care our patients receive," according to the report.
