Emory Healthcare strikes 2 new urgent care partnerships, expands another

Atlanta-based Emory Healthcare has tested the urgent care waters and is ready to dive in.

The $3 billion health system announced plans Monday to partner with two urgent care companies, Peachtree Immediate Care and SmartCare Urgent Care, in addition to growing its partnership with CVS MinuteClinic. Across the three partnerships, Emory will provide urgent care at nearly 60 locations throughout Atlanta.

The providers at these locations will become part of Emory Healthcare Network, the system's clinically integrated network. The urgent care locations will also share an EMR to improve care handoffs for patients whose needs extend beyond the urgent care setting.

"We are very excited about this new partnership with our urgent care colleagues and additional MinuteClinic locations, and believe these clinics will help in increasing access by providing alternative health care options," Jonathan Lewin, MD, president, CEO and chairman of the board for Emory Healthcare, said in an emailed statement. "These clinics will allow patients to get Emory-level care in a timely manner. All of the urgent care clinics coming onboard will have the same quality standards we hold to other members of the Emory Healthcare Network."

Peachtree Immediate Care has 16 locations, SmartCare has four locations and CVS MinuteClinic has recently expanded its clinical collaboration with Emory from 31 to 38 locations.
