Two Miami-based hospitals — Baptist Hospital of Miami and Nicklaus Children's Hospital — have applied to create transplant programs, according to South Florida Business Journal.
Baptist Hospital wants to create an adult bone marrow transplant program, which is currently only offered at one other hospital in Miami-Dade County: University of Miami Hospital and Clinics.
Nicklaus Children's Hospital is seeking approval for its pediatric heart, liver and kidney transplant program. Jackson Memorial Hospital offers the programs, and Hollywood-based Memorial Regional Hospital has a pediatric heart transplant program.
The systems have applied to the Agency for Health Care Administration through its certificate of need process to create the transplant program. AHCA began the process Oct. 19 and will announce decisions Feb. 19.
