In the midst of the opioid epidemic, the American Hospital Association has pronounced its support for the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act.

The bipartisan legislation is currently being considered by the Senate.

In a letter to four U.S. Senators, AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack noted how health systems and hospitals "see firsthand the effects of opioid abuse, addition and overdoses in the communities [they] serve across the nation."

"The AHA applauds your efforts in moving this important legislation and we look forward to working with you to ensure its passage," he added.

Additionally, the AHA is in favor of more access to medication assisted treatment for overdose and better training for medical responders on how they can administer medication to overdose victims.
