AHA: 1st QPP deadline is Dec. 31

Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act's first performance period for the clinician Quality Payment Program ends Dec. 31, and clinicians participating in the Merit-based Incentive Payment System have until March 31 to submit 2017 performance data, the American Hospital Association reminds.

If MIPS clinicians fail to meet the March reporting deadline, they will face an automatic 4 percent reduction to payments under the physician fee schedule in 2019.

However, clinicians practicing in areas affected by the 2017 hurricane season or the Northern California wildfires are granted a special exception from the QPP's MIPS requirements for 2017.

The 2018 QPP performance period begins Jan. 1, affecting 2020's physician fee schedule.
