8 grant winners selected for AMA's $15M residency training initiative

The American Medical Association announced the winners of its Reimagining Residency initiative June 5, which aims to improve residency training in the U.S.

AMA launched the initiative in late 2018 and invited healthcare organizations to submit grant applications for research projects aimed at creating systemic changes to residency training.

An advisory panel of medical education experts selected the eight winning grant funding recipients. Each recipient group will receive $14.4 million over five years to fund their projects. The new partners will also work with AMA's existing Accelerating Change in Medical Education consortium to devise new standards and procedures for residency training.

Here are the eight winning recipient groups:

  1. Oregon Health & Science University (Portland) and University of California, Davis

  1. University of North Carolina School of Medicine (Chapel Hill)

  1. NYU School of Medicine (New York City)

  1. Partners HealthCare System, Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital (All located in Boston)

  1. Maine Medical Center (Portland)

  1. Montefiore Health System (New York City)

  1. Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (Baltimore), Stanford (Calif.) University School of Medicine and University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine

  1. Vanderbilt University Medical Center (Nashville, Tenn.) and University of Mississippi Medical Center (Jackson)
