5 nonmedical jobs in healthcare

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates healthcare will be one of the fastest-growing job markets during the next several years, according to Parade.

However, there's more to the healthcare industry than the clinical workforce. Here are five nonmedical positions for individuals looking to shift into the industry.

1. Dietetic technician — Prepare meals for hospital patients and work with registered dietitians to craft patient menus. Individuals in the field typically hold a high school diploma and make an average of $26,000 per year.

2. Space psychologist — Evaluate astronauts' mental health and design training programs to improve their teamwork and space survival skills during missions. Space psychologists typically wield a master's degree or PhD and bring in an average salary of $113,000.

3. Medical illustrator — Create illustrations for medical textbooks, scientific journals, and other print and digital media platforms. Individuals in the medical illustrations industry characteristically hold a master's degree in medical illustration or a related field and make an average of $62,000 annually.

4. Pedorthist — Design, modify and fit orthotic shoes to aid patients in their rehabilitation and treatment. Pedorthists typically hold a high school diploma and have completed a certification course. The average salary for the field is $39,000.

5. Medical ethicist — Assist clinicians and other medical personnel in making moral decisions about patients' care and medical research by incorporating principles of theology, philosophy and sociology. Individuals typically hold a master's degree, JD, MD or PhD, or the equivalent, and maintain an average salary of $73,000.
