40+ physicians to leave Novant Health

A Novant Health spokesperson confirmed to Becker's Hospital Review that 41 physicians plan to leave its medical group.

"Novant Health and a group of 41 physicians are in the process of revising our business relationship. The physicians are leaving our medical group. That said, Novant Health continues to focus on our goal of delivering a remarkable experience to our patients," the spokesperson for the Winston-Salem, N.C.-based health system told Becker's via email Jan. 23.

The spokesperson added that the two groups are still in talks and will share further details about the negotiations once they are finalized.

"Novant Health is committed to ensuring our patients have a voice and choice in their care and we will do whatever is necessary to provide convenient access for our communities," the spokesperson said.

It is unclear which physicians are leaving and whether they plan to form an independent practice.

The health system told The Charlotte Observer it employs roughly 900 physicians in the Charlotte, N.C., area.

The breakaway follows a similar move by more than 80 Mecklenburg Medical Group physicians who left Charlotte-based Atrium Health last fall. The health system told WFAE 90.7 it has since hired more than 45 physicians and is continuing recruitment efforts.
