Nearly one-third of cardiologists experience symptoms of burnout, according to a study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

For the study, ACC polled 2,274 cardiologists via email on burnout and job satisfaction.

Four findings:

1. A majority of cardiologists (73.2 percent) did not report burnout symptoms.

2. Of these individuals, 23.7 percent said they enjoyed work. About 50 percent reported feeling stressed and having less energy.

3. In contrast, 26.8 percent of cardiologists reported feeling burned out.

4. Of those experiencing burnout, 19.2 percent had at least one burnout symptom, 6.4 percent had chronic burnout symptoms and 1.2 percent reported feeling "completely burned out to the point of possibly needing outside intervention."
