10 characteristics of a successful concierge medicine practice

Emily Rappleye -

Many physicians are beginning to dip their toes into the concierge medicine pool to provide telehealth services to the rich and super-rich, according to Russ Alan Prince, president of R.A. Prince and Associates, a consulting firm.

What does it take for physicians to be successful in this niche market? Mr. Prince looked to Daniel Carlin MD, CEO and Founder of WorldClinic, a concierge telemedicine practice founded in 1996, for tips. Dr. Carlin suggests successful concierge medicine practices have the following 10 characteristics, as presented in Forbes.

1. Make patient care a No. 1 priority.

2. All staff must be excellent communicators.

3. Get to know patients beyond their clinical information.

4. All physicians should be board certified and regularly participating in CME.

5. No conflicts of interest should block patients from accessing the best possible care.

6. Model care on preventive medicine and wellness.

7. Make sure patients have 24/7 access to care.

8. Know how to use Skype and FaceTime to diagnose patients.

9. Use the latest biomarker screening tests.

10. Employ smartphone-based monitoring for patients with chronic conditions.
