Leo Vartorella -

Every manager wants to understand the secrets behind their most productive employees, but Zenger/Folkman CEO Jack Zenger and President Joseph Folkman  performed a study to discover the core traits of high-performing team members, according to the Harvard Business Review.

The authors collected data on more than 7,000 employees who had been scored by their managers and colleagues on productivity and 48 other behaviors. They looked at the top 10 percent of performers and then conducted a factor analysis to find the seven skills the most productive employees demonstrate.

Here are the seven behaviors top-performing employees most consistently exhibit.

  1. Set stretch goals.
  2. Show consistency.
  3. Have knowledge and technical expertise.
  4. Drive for results.
  5. Anticipate and solve problems.
  6. Take initiative.
  7. Be collaborative.
