WSJ: Trump administration working on alternative to 'Medicare for All'

The Trump administration is readying a healthcare plan as a rebuttal to Democrats' "Medicare for All" proposals and as a fallback in case the ACA is repealed, anonymous sources told The Wall Street Journal.

The plan is still in the works, and the administration expects to release it in September, according to the report. The policy package is part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to engage voters on healthcare, which is expected to be a top issue in the 2020 election.

The plan is expected to provide safeguards for people with preexisting conditions, a major concern if the ACA is repealed in a Republican-led lawsuit seeking to find the healthcare law unconstitutional. The plan would also likely include provisions to promote interstate insurance sales, expand health savings accounts, create state waivers for high-risk pools, and create more regulations to improve transparency and link healthcare price and quality information, The Wall Street Journal reports.
