Wisconsin cancer survivor looking to replace Paul Ryan releases healthcare platform

Randy Bryce, a Democrat cancer survivor looking to flip the Republican district long represented by House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., in the upcoming midterm elections, has released his healthcare platform, according to Urban Milwaukee.

"Healthcare was one of the main reasons I got into this race. I survived cancer when I didn’t have health insurance. My mom has [multiple sclerosis]. My dad has Alzheimer's. I know what it’s like to have your life turned upside down because of not having health insurance," Mr. Bryce, a union ironworker, said in a prepared statement. "In 2018, no one should be dying because politicians keep putting party over people. We need to reform our healthcare system now.".

Here are Mr. Bryce's healthcare goals if elected to the House:

  1. Oppose Paul Ryan's healthcare cuts.
  2. Lift restrictions on Medicare negotiating drug prices.
  3. Tackle the opioid crisis.
  4. Support minimum safe-staffing levels for nurses.
  5. Find a cure for Alzheimer's and multiple sclerosis.
  6. Drive down pharmaceutical prices.
  7. Pass paid medical and family leave.
  8. Fully fund gun violence research.
  9. Add more nurses, counselors and other mental health support to schools.
