Westfield Memorial Hospital president dies suddenly

Valerie K. Jackson, president of Westfield (N.Y.) Memorial Hospital, died unexpectedly March 14, according to The Post-Journal.

Ms. Jackson was 49 years old, according to Endeavor News.

She assumed the president role at Westfield Memorial Hospital Aug. 13, 2018. During her tenure, the hospital added a 64-slice Perspective CT Scanner, a new patient lift system and an Ultrasound Probe Disinfection Unit. She also oversaw the implementation of a new security and panic alarm system as well as the addition of lymphedema services in the physical therapy department. The Post-Journal did not state the reason for her death.

Previously, Ms. Jackson served as vice president of the hospital services division at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport, Pa. She also had experience as COO of Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk, N.Y. She was a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

"Valarie was a bright and shining light whose smile and engaging personality lit up any room she entered. Her passing has saddened all of us at Westfield Memorial Hospital," said Helen Baran, chair of the Westfield Memorial board of directors, according to the report. "We are grateful for the short time Valarie was at the helm of our community hospital and we will honor her legacy by continuing to fulfill our mission."
