Wahiawa General Hospital Avoids Layoffs, Reduced Hours After HMC Shutdown

Wahiawa (Hawaii) General Hospital was able to avoid planned layoffs and reduced hours after Hawaii Medical Center closed two locations in Honolulu and Ewa Beach, according to a KITV report.

Wahiawa General has seen its average daily ambulance transfers increase dramatically, and business has surged 10-20 percent since HMC's closure.

In December, HMC announced in bankruptcy court that it could not reach a sale price for its two hospitals with Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare Services, forcing closure of both of its facilities.
