Kelly Gooch -

UPMC Hamot in Erie, Pa., has renamed the UPMC Hamot Women's Hospital, according to a Executive Insight report.

Here are five things to know about the name change.

1. UPMC Hamot Women's Hospital has been renamed to Magee-Women's Hospital- UPMC Hamot Campus.

2. UPMC's Magee-Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh will now have an Erie campus at Hamot, essentially forming a closer alignment with specialists and leaders at UPMC's Magee-Women's Hospital, according to the report.

3. The change involves a $1 million initial investment to develop an outpatient physician office facility on the Erie campus, as well as ongoing program expansion, according to the report. That ongoing program expansion includes additional OB/GYN services and specialty services such as reproductive endocrinology and gynecological oncology, among others.

4. The new Magee-Women's Hospital-UPMC Hamot Campus development will also include adding at least 15 new positions, according to Debbie Burbules, who has been president of the women's hospital since it opened.

5. Robert Edwards, MD, professor and chairman of the department of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive medicine at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and co-director of UPMC's Women's Health Services, spoke positively of the change. "This fits in with our regional strategy for enhancing women's health services across the UPMC system by building on our partnerships with UPMC Northwest, UPMC Horizon, WCA Hospital in Jamestown, N.Y., and other regional hospitals, as well as our physician partners, including OB/GYN Associates of Erie," Dr. Edwards said, according to the report. "Delivering quality care close to home in all of the communities we serve is a big part of UPMC's overall mission."
