Transgender-inclusive bill moves to California Senate

A transgender-inclusive healthcare bill passed the California assembly with a 60-11 vote and is headed to the state's Senate.

Sen. Scott Wiener is behind the bill, which is first of its kind in the nation, according to an Aug. 23 news release from the lawmaker's office.

If passed, the TGI (transgender, gender diverse and intersex) Inclusive Care Act will update physician education curriculum, enfore care standards, require health insurance companies to undergo cultural competency training and list gender-affirming providers in their directories, and ensure tracking and publishing of complaints related to inclusive care.
