Irving, N.Y.-based TLC Health Network will close its long-term care and medical/surgical units, affecting 38 employees, according to a Buffalo Business First report.
The hospital announced the layoffs via a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filed Aug. 21 with the New York State Department of Labor. Job cuts are scheduled to occur between Nov. 17 and Nov. 30.
The layoffs come as the hospital moves toward outpatient care, according to the report. The report states the long-term care and medical/surgical units are closing, but the hospital has plans to add services and open a new 20-bed chemical dependency unit.
TLC Health Network CEO John Galati told Buffalo Business First affected employees include certified nurses aides, licensed practical nurses, registered nurses and patient care technicians, among various others at Lake Shore Health Care Center in Irving.
Affected employees will be able to apply for open jobs in places such as the existing behavioral health unit and the yet-to-open chemical dependency unit, according to the report
TLC Health Network, which is in bankruptcy, has been in talks with Dunkirk, N.Y.-based Brooks Memorial Hospital and Buffalo, N.Y.-based Kaleida Health regarding possible collaboration. Buffalo Business First reports this could result in a completed merger with Brooks and a larger affiliation with Kaleida.
