Syracuse hospital lets go of 9 management, non-union employees

Morgan Haefner -

Syracuse, N.Y.-based Crouse Hospital laid off nine management and other non-union employees, The Post-Standard reports.

The hospital cut 13 non-union jobs, including some supervisor and director positions, according to Crouse Vice President Bob Allen. Derrick Suehs, the hospital's chief quality officer since 2001, left Crouse last week, though Mr. Allen said it was unrelated to the layoffs.

One of the non-union positions was unfilled. Another 12 union positions, seven unfilled, will be cut as well. Three non-union employees will take other positions at Crouse, and five union workers will take other positions at the hospital, meaning no union workers were laid off.

The hospital has approximately 3,100 workers, according to the report.

Mr. Allen said the layoffs were routine, and the hospital brought in $13.5 million so far this year before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, $2.5 million short of its goal.
