As part of the new partnership, the Van Buren hospital will be renamed Sparks Medical Center-Van Buren and will add on a $10 million emergency room and gynecology, gastroenterology and outpatient urology services, according to the report.
Both the Van Buren hospital and the Fort Smith-based Sparks Regional Medical Center are owned by Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems. The 492-bed Sparks Regional Medical Center is the second largest CHS facility and the Van Buren hospital is the smallest, according to the report.
“We’re going to come together with our synergies and take advantage of our size and our scope of services,” Sparks Health System CEO Dan McKay told the Southwest Times Record. “We want to make sure we have a competitive hospital in this market that complements what we do at Sparks.”
