St. Charles Health Eliminates 2 Executive Positions to Save Money

Bend, Ore.-based St. Charles Health System is eliminating a hospital CEO position and the position of chief administrative officer from its C-suite, according to a report by The Bulletin.

The CEO of St. Charles Bend (Ore.), Jay Henry, and system CAO Kirk Schueler will leave their positions Jan. 3. Those positions will then be eliminated, according to the report.

Cutting the two executive positions is expected to save St. Charles $2.4 million. The system needs to cut spending by a total of $5.2 million to meet its 2014 budget, according to the report.

St. Charles Health has four hospitals, and after the positions are cut, two CEOs will oversee two hospitals each. Currently, three CEOs oversee the four hospitals.

The system called Mr. Schueler's departure "voluntary," but did not characterize Mr. Henry's departure in the same way, according to the report.
